Lawrence has talent to create her personality from scratch and make her character lively. In "God's joke", the reader learned about the exhausted life of Rachel Cameron. Elementary school teacher Rachel at Manawatka Manitoba balances dissatisfaction with personal problems and friends and family problems. When she was 34 years old she still lived in a small apartment above the funeral home with her widow's mother. Rachel seemed to show respect to the outside mother, but it fought against the urge to want to challenge her from the bottom of my heart. She endured the death of her baby sister, all her grandparents, her father, and finally her dog. For Vanessa, leaving the town can ease the pain. The way she deals with all death and sorrow is leaving it all and leaving everything behind. Twenty years later, Vanessa returned to her hometown and buried his mother. "I have not returned for a long time, I think this will be the last time I saw it."
