Since the Industrial Revolution, labor unions have played an increasingly strong role in the workplace. Trade unions began with a group of workers' groups to negotiate improvements in working conditions, wages, and benefits. Over time, labor unions expanded and became very active in political scene. As the trade union force continues to expand, especially in the public sector, they were able to enact legislation requiring public workers to pay union dues to continue their work.

Freedom of speech is a fundamental characteristic of human rights. In Canada everyone has the right to receive section 2 of the rights and freedoms of the Charter: (a) freedom of conscience and religion, (b) freedom of thought, faith, opinion and expression (including news) freedom and other media . Media is the most important medium for acquiring knowledge today and should not be subject to censorship. However, censorship is a common obstacle in most people's lives.

The statute details the main rights and freedoms under the headings of basic freedom and legal rights. The basic freedom corresponds to the basic freedom of the First Amendment of the American Human Rights Code, but it is more extensive.
