A Comparison of Satire in Voltaire's Candide and Gulliver's Travels

A more equitable observer of Zanzan and Gulliver's Travels has the ability to make the most critical and objective observations about social and human behavior. This impartial observer will see the truth. The same premise may apply to literary works as well. Rustic personality and narrator can be used as a fair observer to reveal the social truth to the audience through his or her innocence. As Morrow pointed out in Voltaire's Candido article, "This is the novelty of apprenticeship, that is, shaping the hearts of young people through intense contact with the universe" (101).

Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels (1726) is a satirical and satirical predecessor of Candid, one of the most familiar literary relatives of Candid. They have some similarities; for example, they all criticize human weaknesses. There are also many differences between them. In "Candide" Voltarie offers a sad theme through joke and criticism. The story itself represents a unique perspective of life through the ironic tone of the author. From a frank experience I can see that the world is a terrible place. In this world, humans will suffer from nature. On the other hand, Swift continues to criticize humanity. He never mentioned one of the benefits of humanity. Compared to Houyhnhnm, a favorite character of postmodern, Swift satiestes bad characters and actions of humans.
