Religion is not the central theme of Toni Morrison's work, but it builds the foundation for intertwined symbolic networks. Morrison's novels are focused on the present or recent lives of people in the past. For African Americans, past events are an important aspect of culture as they try to memorize their history, and the most influential events of these events can be traced back to the era of slavery. Historians believe that for new slaves, Christianity offers places of worship for refugees, soils that can rebuild their original spirituality symbol.
In this seminar we will focus on Morrison's first five novels (Blue Eye, Sula, Solomon's Song, Tar Baby, Darling), and various academic methods of her life and work.
