A Case for Alternative Energy Generation: How Effective Is It?

As the population increases, energy demand also increases. Americans want to be able to supply electricity when they need it, and the economy depends on electricity, but shortage of power can become reality right away. The United States produces a lot of electricity by burning fossil fuels. Governments and states are aiming to reduce pollution, but it seems impossible to reduce carbon emissions as energy demand is so high. An aged grid is the cause of energy shortage, but fossil fuel power plants can not simply satisfy demand.

In addition to fossil fuels, there are various alternative energy sources that can generate electricity. These include wind, geothermal, sun, hydropower and nuclear power. Using these energy sources provides an effective alternative to electricity instead of using fossil fuels. As a clean energy source, fuel cells, natural gas and batteries can replace fossil fuels. Opponents argue that many technical barriers must be overcome before alternative energy sources can replace a fraction of the electricity provided by fossil fuels. They say that fossil fuels last for hundreds of years, become more efficient and still the most economical option and say that relying on inefficient alternate energy sources will harm the economy.
