This book is in Devonshire boarding school in New Hampshire. This book comes from the first person viewpoint of Gene's Forrester. Jean began visiting Devon School in 1959 and remembered him and the Phineas of the tree to begin suicide union in the summer.
This story soon goes back to the summer of 1942. Phineas (Funny) and Jean are roommates, they are best friends. Finney is a handsome, mocking, athletic athlete. This gene is a lonely, introverted intellectual. That's because the other side attracts them and forms a very strong connection. Finney came up with the idea of jumping into a river from a big tree at school. Even if they were surrounded by classmates, only Finney and Jean soared to seal a friendly relationship with the suicide society of the summer.
When they returned to the upper grade Genes expressed dissatisfaction with Finny's adventure and considered it a threat to his academic performance. When Elwin (Leper) Lepellier decided to enter the club, Gene was taking an exam. Forced to jump with the new members, Jean decided to drop Finny from the tree by bouncing Finny's limb for the jump. Finney fell down and broke his legs; his athletic abilities were all limited
The gene tried to admit it to Finney, but it did not help. Finney denied, he decided more to be Jean's best friend. Finney trained Jean to become a fictitious Olympic athlete in 1944, and Jean helped Finney finish his study.
However, Leper witnessed treason against Gene's Finny, he decided to join the army. Unfortunately Leper was unacceptable and broke. He was discharged according to the eighth section of the military rule.
When Leper returned to Devon, his classmates decided to try Gene. Finney really got injured this time. When he ran out of the rally, he broke his leg again.
This book was written in 1959, not only war novels, but also classic watches. Using a metaphor of friendship between two boys, we see how war can harm humanity. As a training camp ruined Leper, jealousy and indignation hurt Jean and Phineas friendship. "... ... as long as you really like, it will love you as you like" (Genesis 111 pages)
"The operating room is a more formal place than elsewhere, operating room and war" (Dr. Stanpole, page 193)
The gene participated in the Navy, but: "I never killed anyone.I never had a strong hatred against the enemies, I killed the enemy there" (p.204)
"There will always be a memory of your war with you, you will be asked 1000 times after the war." (Mr. Healy, p.199) Very good!
