2007 AP Prompt: "A Barred Owl" vs. "The History Teacher"

One of our recent work is to analyze two poems, "Forbidden Owl" by Richard Wilbur and "History Teacher" by Billy Collins. After reading the poem and annotating it, we need to deal with the 2007 AP hint as follows. "In the next two verses, adults provide explanations for children, analyze how each poet uses literary means to clarify their views."

Disclaimer: Since we do not need to write a complete article, these are just a few of my ideas put together in a paragraph I can say that this is not my best job ,to go. Among these two poems, Wilbur and Collins solved an interesting challenge to explain the problem to children by writing 'forbidden owl' and 'history teacher', respectively. The same problem was written, but the author chose a unique approach to solve this problem.

Both Wilbur and Collins can brighten both verses because they both know the vocabulary and the surrounding world extensively to vividly depict the scene of the scene being described. Even though you imagine either a mysterious owl in Wilbur's poetry, or an idyllic white fence in Collins, these images are definitely metaphor.

Also, the device seems to have changed. Collins said in a verse that in his verse he gave a sense of "virgin" almost in his poetry as he described in detail how parents converted the actual situation of the outside world into euphemism. wrote. Collins tried to convey comfort to children. Perhaps I wanted to brave them and make me want to confront their fears in a new way.

Wilbur, on the other hand, chose a less traditional poetic form to convey his message. He is a free poem and writes in a clear structure, but his greatest literary weapon is his usage of irony. His work penetrates it as it explains the need for a historical teacher to protect his students from reality severity by speaking to them in the past. Finally, although these poems have some similarities, in general we say that these poems are absolutely different. This is quite interesting because I analyzed the poem for the first time and made my meaning by displaying my idea on the page. I can only improve from here.
