Approximately 3 million people died worldwide each year, and 20 million to 50 million people are suffering nonfatal injuries. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in all ages and are the leading cause of death among people aged 15-29.
This fact file provides data on the latest global health estimates from the World Health Organization and the World Traffic Safety Status Report published in 2015. The report shows that road traffic accident is still an important public health problem. A comprehensive framework such as a safety system approach is needed to ensure a safe transportation system for all road users in order to reduce the number of deaths from traffic accidents.
The United Nations adopted numerous resolutions on traffic safety and proposed actions to deal with the global traffic safety crisis. Considering that the current level of traffic safety is unacceptable, the United Nations has taken several initiatives. One initiative, "Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011 - 2020" has carried out numerous activities all over the world over the past few years. Furthermore, it is very promising that the United Nations adopted road safety as the goal of sustainable development set in September 2015. Traffic safety is part of the Public Health Agenda and Urban Development Agenda. However, from "actual behavior", correspondence to the international community and the whole country so far does not indicate that we have chosen the right way to reduce the number of deaths on the road.
Approximately 3 million people died worldwide every year, and 20 million to 50 million people have injuries not fatal. The World Traffic Safety Status Report is the first extensive assessment of traffic safety requirements in 178 countries using standardized survey data. As a result, it has been shown that injuries due to traffic accidents are still important public health issues, especially in low and middle income countries. Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcycle riders account for nearly half of the victims on the road and emphasize the need for these road users to pay more attention to traffic safety plans. As a result, we found that it is necessary to make the traffic safety law more comprehensive in many countries and to strengthen the law enforcement agencies. The global situation report on the results of traffic safety clearly shows that more action is required to make the roads in the world safer
