“I’m Not the Indian You Had in Mind”

Images of indigenous peoples often depict them with negative stereotypes and have been widespread through various forms of mass media for a long time. A half-naked dancer wearing familiar drums, traditional costumes, brave warriors, feathers and deer skin emphasizes the idea that indigenous peoples are completely different from mainstream society. Many Hollywood movies, TV shows, fashion shows, advertisements inherit these stereotypes, but they have little to do with the contemporary (and historical) indigenous costumes, work, thoughts, and actions.
