"Frankenstein": The Modern Prometheus, Boldly Creative

In the last project of my novel unit, I chose Frankenstein, a novel written by Mary Shelley, first published in 1818. Frankenstein is a story about an ambitious young scientist who transcended the practically acceptable science limit and produced a devastating monster, Victor Frankenstein. As one of the earliest Gothic novels, Frankenstein explored the dark side of humanity, ambition and human thought. Mary Sherry is the second wife of the famous British poet Percy Shelly.

First, the complete title of the novel is Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus. This tells us that there was a connection between Frankenstein and Prometheus before we started to read the story. In order to better understand this, it is important to know who Prometheus is. Prometheus is the creator of humanity in Greek mythology. He stole the fire from man Greek god Zeus. Zeus opens the box of pain and despair and punishes the goddess Pandora This suffering and despair afflict humanity. Prometheus suffered because Zeus bound him to the rock, and every day a huge eagle ate his liver.

Comparing Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and Prometheus myths Mary Sherry's Frankenstein's subtitle is "contemporary Prometheus" and is considered a matter of course. Prometheus was a Titan who created human beings in the Greek mythology and gave firepower, a symbol of Victor Frankenstein, who created "monsters" and gave their lives. One of the most striking aspects of Frankenstein and Prometheus' mythical similarity is the underlying theme - both involve destiny actions with tragic consequences.
