After his wife died - probably during the snowstorm he confined her outside the apartment - Charlie handed his nephew custody of his daughter Honoriah. When the story began Charlie returned to Paris to regain honor. Charlie's hope seems shattered by accidental and catastrophic arrival of two drinking partners on the bad days of the past when persuading the suspected relatives that he truly reformed. At the end of the story, Charlie decided to keep his clarity and continue working hard to regain his daughter.
