ECGIA's mission is to respond to the spread of gangs in our society and help them to reach out and effectively eradicate. ECGIA aims to raise awareness of gangs in our society and to support the cooperation of law enforcement agencies and related institutions to fight gang activities. ECGIA promises to provide valuable up-to-date information and networks among ECGIA members, peer associations, and law enforcement agencies.

More than a decade ago, the East Coast Gang investigator association aimed at a vision of developing a multi-faceted forum to share information on criminal street gangs. This vision has evolved into the largest and most extensive gang enforcement network in the United States. In the United States, after the American Revolutionary War of 1783, the history of the gang started on the east coast. The emergence of these groups is largely due to the vast rural population move to urban areas. In the late 1920s, the first street gang in the United States, 40 thieves began in New York. Washington DC gang controls the current Federal triangle, although now known as murder bay. According to the National Youth Gang Center, in 2007 there were about 785,000 active street gang members in the United States. In 2011, FBI's National Gang Intelligence Center said, "There are about 1.4 million active streets, prisons, illegal gang members in the United States, including more than 330,000 gangs." The street gang emerges in three stages on the east coast of the northeastern street gang (Adamson, 1998; Sante, 1991). After the end of the American Revolutionary War of 1783, the first gangs began to emerge, but they did not experience criminals and only the young people competed for local lawn. Around a few years later around 1820, a larger immigration review will begin, and a full-fledged gang starts in New York. Gangs coming out of this crucible are more structured and dangerous. In the 1950s and 1960s, the third wave of gang activity developed as the Latin group and the black group rushed.
