Writing Numbers in Different Forms In order for students to flexibly use numbers, students are required to understand different numbers of expressions, such as standard, extended, and word forms. Understanding multiple expressions of numbers creates conditions for multiplication and division of numbers, and understanding and comparison of scores and decimals.
Q: How did you write 1,342 with the standard sign? How did you write with extended symbols? Make students compare their digital form records (BLM 4)
Q: How do you know how to divide 1,342 different parts when you write it in extended format? Discuss with students about how they divide numbers into thousands, hundreds, dozens, and 1
Please solve it with your students and read the problem again. Ask students to explain in a written way the four ways Manchetti's students can represent 1,342 people. Say: the next day, the team must represent 2,511 in 4 ways. Ask students to fill in a new copy of the 2,511 number form record form
● Establish a learning center consisting of ten basic components. Let the students take turns working at the center and let the block game play. Students will say four-digit numbers. Then another student uses the block to make a number
● Simulate various numbers using the Cuisenaire® stick and let students write numbers in three different formats
try it. 30 minutes | 6 groups Here we ask questions about 1 to 4 digit modeling, reading and writing in various formats.
Please introduce the problem. Then let the students do activities to solve the problem. Distribute 10 basic blocks, digital form recording paper (BLM 4), paper and pencil to students. Introducing and defining the standard symbols, extension symbols and word forms of the terms, we provide students with an example of 3 digit form including 1, 2, 3, 4 digits.
1. Ask the team to display 1,342 using blocks. Then draw the blocks used to model the number to the students and ask them to write numbers in their standard format on their records
3. Remind students that they can also write numbers in words. Ask the group to write a form of 1,342 words in their recording
2. Check the symbols of students and extensions. Next, using extended notation, ask the students to write 1,342 in their records. Tell the students that they can see their block to help them
Please pay attention to the students who insert the entire number in the form of a word and enter it like "1,003,342". Prompt the student for attention and use it as part of the number (decimal number)
Use base ten blocks to build numbers. Then I will draw a few models. Write numbers in standard format
To challenge! When changing the number given as a word into a number written in standard form, explain why zero is written to the bit value. Draw a model to help
Challenge: (Example) If the numeric word format does not contain the word at each place, one of the location values contains 0. Example: If the number is greater than 1000 and the word 100 is missing, there are one place in hundreds if that number is written in standard format.
